Apocalypse

from The Owl by Adeem the Artist

/

lyrics

Reading Tarot in an alleyway by Sparky’s on Burnett
With the lovers card reversed there in the center next to death
And she’s reacting to the images (or what they represent)
But when we’re driving home, she carries on about her animal spirit

She rattles off some wisdom, some Snapple facts she’s read,
Or perhaps she’s checking twitter- but her voice becomes intense
And she says, “If I was an owl, how would we have met?
Is there some pattern to the cosmos or are you just the one I picked?”

Pulling up to the apartment, she is quiet and content
Running through the mock occasions of the ways we would have met
And I am careful not to miss her trembling silhouette
Juxtaposed against the terrors of apocalypse
